Following PRR's locomotive classifications, wouldn't this thing be a G-6?

I kind of like the Trains magazine caption in their "Railroad News Photos" when this unit first appeared: "wouldn't two of these make a great locomotive?"

reminds me of N&W's switcher mods.

What would have caused this bit of freak bashing? Not to just cut a gg1 in half, maybe it was in a wreck and use the good half like this?

For whatever reason (maybe cracked frames?), the rest of the loco this came from 4846, was scrapped in March 1967, a year after the first three to be retired (4804/4831/4847).

That GG1 hit track work equipment and was wrecked, they took the good end and made that snow blower in the picture. I remember seeing a picture years ago of that G with the work equipment impaled in the front of it.

No. That wreck happened in the Amtrak/Penn Central era (and despite having the Complete Trains on my computer, I haven't found the news photo in question yet.....).

I remember reading about this Loco & I believe it was used as a shop switcher.

Of course it would not be called a GG-1/2 but rather a G-something since G was PRR's 4-6-0 designation and GG was like two back to back.

Too bad that thing doesn't turn up in a forgotten corner of a scrap yard. There'd be your transformer and switch group.

I think I saw the picture in the book The Remarkable GG1.

The Remarkable GG1 is where the image is. She was used as a snow blower in the Wilmington yard. I believe it was subsequently scrapped. Interesting though, like her steam sisters, used to clear snow after revenue service ended.
