The latest issue of Trainline/ARM mag has a nice article about recent installations of turntables and roundhouses. I would be interested in hearing from organizations which have completed these projects in the past 10+ years to gain insight as to how these projects have work out for you - pros and cons. Actual costs and materials used would be helpful as well (I had plans to win the Mega-Millions jackpot but that didn't happen yet!)

I've had a long time goal of installing the turntable and constructing a display roundhouse of approximately 5-10 stalls and would appreciate the feedback.

If you didnt know already, the Age Of Steam Roundhouse is in the process of building a fully working 18 stall roundhouse (which is already completed), having a 115 foot turntable (installed, but not electrafied), wood water tower (legs installed, waiting till spring to install reservoir) and a coal tower (waitng to be made). A list of museums/operations that have installed relocated turntables in the past few years in addition to the one in Ohio in no particular order is West Coast Railway Heritage Park in Squamish, BC; Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum, in Willimantic, CT; Santa Clara River Valley Historical Society/ Fillmore & Western Ry in Santa Clara, CA; and the Railroaders Heritage Corp/Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona, PA. A lot of data about it was posted on rypn.org by the Altoona group at the time.

TVRM and Summerville GA

Digging out our 65' (?) pit is on the list of things to do this year. We are hoping that the pivot block and rails are still in there. Once we get it dug out, we have to find a table. We have a lead on one from a similar pit but our requests have gone unheard from the organization that owns it.

We have been told by several long time residents that their older relatives told stories of a small roundhouse on our property in the yard but we have yet been able to come up with any photographic proof or footings/foundation.

And let me say publically that although we fought with the township to not allow Wawa to take the property and build a super store, Wawa came through in the end and donated the ground to us that the old rail yard was in. So we have plans to rebuild the freight house on it's original footings, put the turntable back in the pit, repoint the brick in the ash pit, lay track over the ash pit, rebuild the doodlebug engine house, and lay track in the yard as it was in the 1900s.
