Greetings all!

Does anyone know where one might possibly obtain copies of drawings, dimensions, or builder's information on former NdeM/FCM Narrow Gauge "Vest Pocket" 2-8-0's? I understand both Baldwin and Alco built versions of various gauges for the Mexican railways.

I believe Alder Gulch has a 30" Baldwin prototype, but am looking for one closer to the 1921 Baldwin, with friendlier lines, pictured here:

Short of crudely attacking and scaling-up from a Bachmann G-scale model with a set of calipers, I am at a loss for prototype size information on these puppies.

Any help GREATLY appreciated!

You could measure the actual engine; five of these have survived, and are still with us.

Baldwin records are relatively easy…

Most Baldwin records are held by DeGolyer Library, Southern Methodist University (Texas) http://www.lib.utexas.edu/taro/smu/00052/smu-00052.html (There are additional records, drawings and photos held by others including Smithsonian, California State Railroad Museum Library and various libraries and archives in PA)

The specification sheets are available on microfilm, and are available at some of the better railroad libraries, as well as on line…

Once you find the specification/order sheet for your locomotive you will have the class number (Baldwin plans and records index to the class number, not the traditional builder’s number found on the builder’s plate on the boiler…) A class number includes the wheel arraignment, cylinder size, and a unique number for each locomotive built…
For example 8-18c 18 is Eureka, the well known 4-4-0. The 8 refers to 8 wheels, total, the 18 is the cylinder size (from a table), c means 4 driving wheels, and assumes all none driving wheels are lead wheels… the 2nd 18 is the unique identifier… Eureka is the 18th 8-18c locomotive. Eureka is also built to plan or drw 4, so would be similar to the other 8-18c drawing 4 locomotives… (there were 104 8-18c locomotives built to 17 different drawings…)

Also on the on the specification sheet, you will find the drawing number the locomotive was built to… As well some dimensions and many details… or using the class number and plan number you can look at tables of plans (also available on microfilm) and get basic dimensions…

You can then request what drawings are held by the various libraries, for your engine or for related engines…

There is lots of information… it does take work to find it…

Those are certainly not friendly then her rebuilt configuration ;) Of course I'm a bit biased.

RR museum of Pennsylvania and Hagley Museum in Delaware have Baldwin records.
