It's located right off U.S. 46 next to the Great Meadows station of the former L&HR. A half mile or so of the main line was left in place there when Conrail lifted the track. Other than that, I have no info on the car.

There were a pair of those combines at Black River in the '60s and '70s, sold off long ago. I remember John Bishop commenting about people in the ends, pototos in the middle, and thus remember them as being ex-BAR. I never knew where all of the wooden cars went, but the paint (or what's left of it-) is right for Black River. This may be one of them.

The car is ex-BAR. About a year ago the owner was thinking of getting rid of the car but he is now committed to its restoration.

Thanks for the info. It seems to be a rare configuration and some nice features for a wood car. It would be a shame to lose it, hope it does at least get stabilized.

So, why did the BAR have segregated coaches? BAR was a little north of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Would the ex-BAR wood baggage car in Wycombe, PA have been part of that collection initially? I know there were several pieces of equipment transfered between BRW and NHI a few decades back.

I don't believe these were Jim Crow cars but rather smoker-non-smoker cars. Same geneeral design but different purpose.

3 wood cars in green and black came from Black River & Western to New Hope & Ivyland in the early 1980s. A 6 door head end car (baggage, express, Railway Post Office?) became a gift shop car at New Hope after it was painted orange and had one door on each side filled in. It may have been moved to Wycombe under later management. A full coach was stored at Wycombe, getting more and more rotten and sagging. A "Jim Crow" combine's body was stored for a long time next to my house in Penndel, Pa., near McHugh Bros. shop, but was eventually sold to a private party. I don't know what happened to the trucks. Could this be the car in the opening post?
