So a friend put me onto this, and I've finally dug up as much information as I think I can find online. Just west of Kimberly, Alabama, there are two steam engines, looking to be 36" gauge Crown 4-4-0s, on a track. The land appears to be owned by the Hallmark Equipment Company, which sells mining equipment. I can't find any further info on the engines; steamlocomotive.info does not mention them and Google produces no results. Have a look: http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=pmxj5k7rxkm3&lvl=19.560487695904047&dir=265.04824421968806&sty=b&nwyw=1&q=I-65%20alabama&ss=yp.I-65%20alabama If you rotate the view, you'll see that one is missing the cab, and they both have reasonably bright paint schemes, and they both look like Crown products. In addition to these, there's something bright green on the track under the shed. Any idea what the heritage on these is? Why a mining equipment dealer has them? Any information at all? |

Crown was more a park locomotive manufacturer, a miniature live steam maker. Steam locomotive.com has however been listing such engines. |

Greatly appreciated--I hadn't thought to check that. According to there, though, they have an Argent 2-6-0 (which appears to be the brighter painted loco), and two 0-4-0s. The other engine appears to be about the same size as the 2-6-0. I suppose this may still warrant further investigation. EDIT: Sorry, after browsing for their previous owner (Petticoat Junction Amusement Park), it now appears that the 0-4-0s were large enough to be confused for the Crowns. Sorry for my confusion. |

I can't remember the details, but.. These locomotives are owned by the Hallmark Estate and were acquired for their personal amusement. They have nothing to do with the Mining Equipt Business. Bill |
