As some of you are aware 565's crosshead were lost during its time at New Hope. They were sent out to a company during the conversion and were never recovered. I'm looking for some good photos of the crossheads that were on 565. Does anyone know if any engine still around has the same style of crossheads. I've attached some photos of the actual 565 crossheads and also we think they are actually Baldwin type crossheads. See attached photo of Locomotive encyclopedia. We are going to make new ones, we are still deciding on how. But if anyone can let me know and if you have contact info that would be great. Thanks in advance. For your static display purposes a welded fabrication with teflon or sintered nylon liners will work just fine. I have no doubt you can find examples of this style in Steamtown to copy with the dimensions changed as necessary to fit. A good steel guy with a Bridgeport mill, saws, maybe a plasma torch and a knowledge of crossheads could knock both out in a couple days. Just cut and fit metal, don't overthink it. dave |
