This is great to see, but I also have to point out that not everyone in Laramie was happy for this. From the Comments that followed the story: " This project is a total and complete waste of money. These railroad cars will have a big fence around them so all you can do is stand there, outside the fence, and look at them. Why not just stand on the pedestrian bridge and look at the railroad cars in the UP yard - for free? Oh yeah, that makes too much sense. " " I don't care about history. It doesn't provide funds for my kids college education, nor does it put food on my table. This was a waste of tax-payer money. The money they spent could've given two people a job for a year. " " You are right, FYI. My pocketbook is seriously sad over this waste of tax money. Why does my sad pocketbook have to fund someone's hobby? Did you contribute to this effort, or are you just content to scold those of us who think the city should be more careful with their financial resources? I would prefer this money go to help prevent city employee furloughs. " " What a waste of money to satisfy one man's childish obsession with choo-choo trains. " We got no respect, no respect at all! This is distressingly common. It's why we don't have more that has been preserved and preserved properly, not to mention more old stuff running. I know from personal experience just how hard this is to overcome, and have to say I failed. What does it take to succeed? |

As one guy in your quotes states- He doesn't care about history; well fortunately many others do. While I have mixed feelings about rail equipment ending up in parks, I am certainly glad they are preserved and hopefully looked after. One comment I will make though, I hope some of the budget for this project includes a roof. Wes |
