On March 1, 1981, a rather motley cast assembled in an abandoned steel mill in Jackson, Ohio to celebrate the culmination of a couple of years of hard work - bringing an old plant switcher back to life. This was Jerry Jacobson's first restoration to operating condition of a steam locomotive, but obviously wouldn't be the last. He had found Jackson Iron and Steel Co. (JISCO) #3 inside a building at the plant a couple of years before, and spent a lot of time, effort and money getting it to the point you see in the photo.

Photo and accompanying article at the link below to the Akron Railroad Club blog. Just scroll down 'til you come to it. A couple of things I wanted to mention. First, I kind of expected the article to be edited a little more than it was. Also, the photo was scanned with the left side cut off. It actually does show the entire front of the engine, as well as one more person to the left who does not show up in this scan. There are several people in the photo whom I did not remember, so if anyone here can identify any of them, please add that to this thread. My memory was that the photo was taken by John B. Corns, and that he gave everyone in it a copy. However, he doesn't remember taking it, so I'm at a loss as to who else might have.

I thought that this photo was timely, given that there have been several mentions on this board of the engine's current rebuild at Steamtown as BLW #26. Enjoy.

Paul,
Larry Evans is third from right sitting on the running board, halfway between you and Gary P. There are a couple of other folks who look familiar, but I can't say for sure who they are. Larry and Dave were after me to invest in the Eagle Canon, but I was just as broke then as I am now.
