Does anyone have the diagrams/drawings for the 1954 CNR painting layout? I'm particularly looking for the sizes and spacings of the stripes (yellow and black) on the heavyweight coaches, and the proper diameter for the round CNR Maple Leaf herald. Also would like a print(s) showing the round CNR Maple Leaf herald, and any details of the spelled-out "Canadian National" and car numbers. Paint codes/info for the yellow and green would be welcome as well. Is any of this available from the archive in Ottawa? Thanks, Howard P. |

A few places to try.... 1. As you said, the Archives of Canada in Ottawa. 2. The Canada Science and Technology Museum in Ottawa. The have an extensive archive, including a large collection directly from CN. 3. The Canadian Railway Historical Association (a.k.a. Expo Rail) in Delson, Quebec 4. The Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario in Smith Falls, Ontario 5. CN Lines Special Interest Group.... http://cnlines.ca/ |

CNR Special Interest (Yahoo) Group has a great file online, a PDF, with CNR paint and logo styles. That should cover all bets on CNR paint. |

Hi, Howard: The Canada Science & Technology Museum in Ottawa has the drawings you're looking for- layout, font, and monograms. They're very good at providing fast service at a reasonable cost. Your best bet is probably high res scans, which can be printed as you need them. Steve Cardinal, Ontario |

I think the good folks at Bluewater Michigan Chapter might be able to help with some of this. I seem to recall that they had a couple of cars in the CN scheme you're thinking of. |

Thanks to all, especially Steve. Some info is working its way to us. Pictures will be posted at appropriate times in the future.... We are working out prices with a couple of the sign shops we use in NY and Conn. for the 20" circular CNR maple leaf monogram as a decal. If anyone is interested in some, please let me know. Perhaps we can place a quantity order (even a dozen or 16). Howard P. |

Probably a little pricey, but I can see a spot for one on my wall. Walt Lankenau |

The Bluewater Michigan Chapter has re-painted two privately-owned CN coaches and a Chapter-owned GT diner over the years, but none of these were heavyweights. The only place I know of that has re-painted several heavyweights into the CN scheme (or at least close to it) is the Alberta Prairie Railroad, who use them behind the CN 6060. Chris. |
