Youngstown Sheet and Tube Baldwin 0-6-0 No. 301 and a Youngstown & Southern Railroad caboose (former B&LE) are exhibited at the Mahoning County Fairgrounds in Canfield, OH. The exhibit is located within 25 feet of a state route and had experienced accelerated corrosion on the road side.

So I present a few photos of their solution to the problem.

Works for me! Seems to be a very simple solution to the problem of road spray.

A simple solution yes, and I can understand why it was done that way. BUT, it also prevents the public from seeing that side of the locomotive and caboose. I wonder if maybe a better, and more permanent solution, would be a free standing wall close to (or in place of) the security fence. Maybe tied in to the top of the structure for stability. After all, the idea of having the rail items on display is to let visitors SEE them. The close proximity of the current wall now basically blocks that effort.

Did I forget to mention that the tarps are removed each spring? And did I also forget to mention that the fairgrounds is not a bottomless pit of money?

OK. Use heavy gauge clear platic tarps. This way the public can still see them and they are protected.
