For those who carry the appropriate credentials, there is a pretty good chance that a US Army Guard Car at Camp Navajo in Arizona will soon become available for donation through the Defense Reutilization & Marketing Service. It will be in the donation cycle once it goes through the "DoD" and "GSA" cycles, so that'll be in around a month, and this is assuming that no state agency or DoD entity picks up the car for some reason (doubtful). I just figured that it might be a good idea to give anyone interested in this sort of car an advanced heads up, because I'm assuming that it would have to be trucked. I wish that I could pick it up for the museum I volunteer with, but we've already got our hands full...

If it does not get picked up during the "Donation" cycle, it will go to Government Liquidators for public sale.

I remember growing up in Hoopeston IL that every once in a while they would run a "special" with two engines, a guard car, a couple of "freight" cars & a way car. This was on the N&W ex NPK ex LE&W.

Judging by the car's wide middle door and the placement of the side windows, it appears to be a former kitchen car that accompanied troop sleeper cars, which were similar in appearance.
