My mother in law wants to gift me a picture, I wanted to see if someone here could point me in the right direction. I'm am going to be looking for a high resolution night photo shot of a mainline steam engine, with steam, perorid correct props and location setting. Then we want to do it in black and white, noir style with red spot color. Now the kicker is she wants to do a three panel on this big empty wall we have. I'm not sure you could do a steam locomotive in 3 panel and have it look any good. Anyone have any pictures of a locomotive done in 3 panel? Or ever seen it done? Yes we are willing to pay for reproduction rights. Thanks Brian |

my first thought is O Winston Link photos. Or you could do it in model form, build a scene. |

Good call, I do like the way he shot his pictures, but most of them seem very busy with alot more of the surrounding than just the engine. |

Maybe a nice shot from EBT or Heber with the engine, coming at you at a small angle, confined to one panel (centered would be the too-obvious way so how about instead having it in the left one), and a bit of train or tender & train in the center, and scenery, maybe a signal, maybe the edge of a station, in the right most panel. Perhaps a winter shot. You'll need to think about the panel shapes for this triptych. I was thinking each panel being taller than it is wider though the overall group would be wider than tall. But let's also throw out the idea of dissimilar shapes. Like in the above example the left panel could be wider and the other two narrower. It might be more visually interesting that way. There is also the question of how much space between panels. And do the gaps mean you've taken the photo, sliced it in three, and moved the slices apart (no lost image) or do the gaps mean there is image that you are not seeing. I'm inclined to the latter though it means more careful choosing of the photo and how it's positioned. The reason being that way it's more like a looking out a set of windows and doesn't distort the view as would slicing and spreading. Steve |

Bingo on the Pete Lerro, exactly what I was looking for, like the idea of the engine, train and station/signal with the gap inbetween, and of being different witdths. I will see what he can come up with and share the end results. Thanks again, I knew this place would have the anwsers. |
