Attached is a picture I bought at a flea market. Its a common car, but a different road name; the Baltimore & Ohio & Chesapeake & Ohio. This was taken in Traverse City, MI in June of 1983. Does anyone know as to why this car was painted like that? And what happened to the car?

Speaking of Traverse City...does anyone know what happened to the ex. C&O engine shed and pit in the Boardman Yard? It was there in 2002, is it still there? I will attach a 2002 picture of that also.

I remember seeing passenger cars with "twin logos" of the B&O "capitol dome" logo and the "C&O for progress" logo after the C&O took control of the B&O, but do not remember the two names written out on the letterboard. Interesting!

If the picture of the car is from 1983, it is probably the car that is next to the SRI museum today in Owosso. Can you make out the car number?

The one at SRI didnt even come to mind. I contact my buddy who owns the one at SRI. Turns out this is the same car...according to him. The number looks to be "TC7-15" could that be right?

Yes, that is the car at SRI.

The combined road names in the letterboard are in no way authentic. Passenger cars in service never wore both road names. In the last years of service, in fact, many cars, both C&O and B&O, just had a yellow band in the letterboard.

Now, there was one mispainted E8 that had C&O initials on the side and a B&O capitol dome on the nose.

It certainly would have defied all rules of standard railroad passenger car lettering practice during pre-Amtrak times to mix a serif and a sans-serif font like that so close together-- or even on the same car for that matter. Now BNSF might do it on their business cars today...
