Heard there was a surplus CPR sale/auction/donation program. Could this be part of that group?

I'm sorry, but with all the graffiti, I'm not even sure that's a passenger car and not one of my paintings (which I consider horrid) :p

Recently, there was an item posted here about a C.P.R. ex-sleeper - now work car, that was being offered for free,to anyone who could move it from it's site in a rail yard, in the mid-west. Somebody step forward, or it was the torch. Apparently, somebody did.
Score one for believers who act instead of negate optimism!

That has got to be the oddest arrangement of a/c ducts on a heavyweight roof that I've ever seen.

I noticed that too. Looks like there are exhaust stacks where the ducts should be.

My guess is that when (or after) conversion to MW service stoves or something needing ventilation was added and the a/c ducts cut back to aid in the installation.

It's not a mystery. As I posted when the CPR surplus list was mentioned before...

The Pullman car TRAPPER might have wider appeal. This car was built in 1929 with a large lot of 8-1-2 sleepers for Pullman's own service, and was first assigned to the Soo Line, as part of the Soo's equipment contribution to the joint Soo/CPR Mountaineer. This line at one time took nine cars; five assigned to the CPR and the rest to the Soo. During 1936 the cars were pulled out of service and air conditioned, when returned to service, the TRAPPER found itself assigned to the CPR lease. During the break-up of the Pullman fleet in 1948, the TRAPPER was sold to CPR, along with four other cars, and all were leased back to Pullman for continued operation. CPR terminated the lease in May of 1955, and subsequently used the car on other runs.

This was the only instance of CPR contracting with Pullman for operation of sleepers in Canada, and likely came about to take advantage of the Pullman pool to bulk out the car assignments during the heavy summer travel season.

I hope it's going to a good home. It's a shame the original trucks went to scrap.
