Found these video clips of use for another posting on another page, and thought they might be of interest here--SP action, apparently much of it in the San Francisco area, complete with steam-powered commuter trains. http://www.youtube.com/user/Conrail6370 ... Very interesting footage indeed. Of particular interest is the way the audio rapidly fades in and out at times, and the impertinent background music. It's almost as if something is being covered up... |

Grrrr, I am a !@#$%&*(())!!! idiot!! Oh well, it's fixed now. Would have been fun to have left that original Edwin Starr "War" clip up, though; would have fit in with the 70's band reminiscences in one of the April Fools' threads, and would have annoyed some conservative elements here to boot! (I have to admit to getting a certain perverse pleasure out of such things, having been falsely called a Communist for promoting a light rail line as an alternative to a four-lane highway. . .) As to Lime Juice's comments about the rising and falling soundtrack and less-than-stellar music, the comments sections in the clips reveal that the poster had silent film to work with, and a limited number of sound effects, so he used the music to fill in the gaps, and of course had to use public domain music due to copyright issues. His dubbing does come out pretty decent, but you're right, he could have either used more sound or better music. Anyway, enjoy the clips and the channel. |

Very neat. Does anyone know of any videos of Southern railway steam power from back in the day ? I've been trying to find some for a while now with no success. |

Still, I did find some things. . .
