| Post subject: | Worthington SA feedwater heater request for information |
Greetings; I have been asked if I have any information on the Worthington size 3SA feedwater heater system, as used on Southern and Union Pacific steam locomotives. They are looking for as much detail documentation as they can find. Parts & maintenance manuals would be excellent. Most of the material I have is on stationary steam pumps. Can anyone please recommend a source? Thank you very much in advance. |

James I asked that same question about where the Worthington archive might be a few years ago. It was last owned by Bombardier Canada at some point. here's a clipping from another net posting; "Bombardier took on its present form in 1976 when MLW-Worthington, a manufacturer of locomotives, acquired Bombardier Ltd., a manufacturer of snow tractors and snowmobiles. The worthington stuff, manuals, are around everywhere. Of all the steam literature the Worthington manuals seem to be the most prolific at the rail swap meets. Bob K |

Hi James I have found some information about the 3 SA heater , in the 1941 Loco Cyclopedia , 3 pages worth , one showing the Heater , Hot water Pump , & Cold water pump . as dragrams . . The following page explains about the Sa pumps, and how they work , on the final page it shows SA locomotive pump Capacities and pipe sizes in inches . Also in Model Railroader Cyclopedia , Vol 1 , it shows a dragram with all the pipeing on the engine, I do not know if either of these are of help, Patrick Fahey |
