New Tourist RR in NY State?

Warren County New York's supervisors have approved a contract with the Iowa Pacific Holdings to operate train service on the former D&H North Creek Branch. The new railroad will be known as the Saratoga & North Creek Railroad. Plans are to operate at least 100 round trip passenger trains between May and October, along with a minimum of 30 ski trains and at least 50 dining car trains. In addition, the Iowa Pacific will operate freight service over the route. Plans are to run one pair of freight trains per day over the route. This will be Iowa Pacific's first venture in the East. It operates a number of shortlines in the west coast, including the San Luis & Rio Grande and Arizona Eastern, along with the Rio Grande Scenic and the Mount Hood tourist railroads.

Comments? Wasn't this the former Adirondack RR that operated trains to a Winter Olympics?

This is the former Upper Hudson River RR.

Try new old. This is not the line that saw service for the 1980 Olympics, that's a former NYC line north of Utica that is today's Adirondack Scenic after many years of dormancy. This North Creek line is an ex D&H branch that had been operating under the name Upper Hudson River Railroad using a privately owned RS-36 and former Alco plant switcher S-1 #5. The also have a third engine on the property, a former SIRY S unit.

Ed Ellis and his team at Iowa Pacific have come up with an innovative plan to exploit the excellent tourist potential of this line and with the support of the owning County it seems to me its got a real chance of success.

All we need is someone (can anyone spell Jacobson, Sandburg, McCormack, and Rowland) To get a tourist railroad running in Mass! I think the idea is sound, and it should work out, at least in pratice.

You are correct. Very quietly, Mr. Ellis and team have built a progressive, vibrant network of freight and tourist railroads (steam-friendly, no less). There is a lot of innovation going on with how Iowa Pacific is going to market and the experiences they are offering riders. Nice to see.
