This morning, the Baltimore Streetcar Museum took delivery from Silk Road Transport of two New Jersey trolleys: red two-truck snowsweeper 5246, and PCC car #10.

I'm not privy to all the details that brought these things to our already-overcrowded facility, but here's what I've been told:

5246 is a 1921 wooden-bodied Russell snowsweeper, visually pretty much identical to the former SEPTA snowsweeper the BSM already has. It is supposedly being stored on behalf of the Friends of the New Jersey Museum of Transportation. The deal is that if the snow sweeper is not removed/reclaimed from the BSM within five years, the BSM owns it free and clear. The car's history: Trenton & Mercer County #31 1921-1935 / Third Avenue Railway System #82 1935-1938 / Toronto Transportation Commission #S39 1938-1973 / New Jersey Transit #5246 1973-2010-ish

#10, currently under a full tarp under an awning of the Ma & Pa freight house along Falls Road, is reportedly being held for "San Diego," which will supposedly inspect the car within the next two weeks and evaluate it for potential restoration or shopping for operation. No word on if they could reject it or re-sell it. (No, they can't look at the actual San Diego St. Louis Car-built PCC that is currently the property of the BSM!) Both cars are standard gauge, and would have to be re-gauged to operate on the BSM's 5' 4.5" track. You don't want to ask how they got them where they are. 5246 is now well-buried on a track behind the car barn, and 10 is under a tarp; don't swing by to get photos for your collection, for there's nothing to get photos of yet.

If I'm hearing things right, there's one more NJT car floating around somewhere........

Early last week while heading home from work on 84 west in Connecticut, I saw a NJ PCC heading north to the Great PCC boneyard in Maine. It was getting late, so not sure if they were going to get there that evening with over size permit restrictions.
