Just saw this film yesterday. It is all animation, similar to the "Ice Age" films, which came from the same studio.

The trolley scenes are great and very realistic. There is an extended sequence which takes place on the roof of the trolley car as it trundles over the viaduct and through cobblestoned city streets. Everything looks very authentic, from the trolley pole to the resistor grids on the roof. As it moves along, the overhead wire, poles, and brackets all look as real as can be. At the end of the scene, there is a brief view of the undercarriage and the tracks laid in the street. The attention to detail is spot on.

Certainly nothing like the rubber-tired streetcars in "Roger Rabbit." BTW, the film is a hoot!
