Right after the Olympics, allot of operational questions were being asked. Well, over on Steam Centrals web site there is a report by John Rimmasch about the events surrounding the steam operations. John lays out the events and what went into making these things happen.

As a member of the team, it was one of the most outstanding months in my life. In only one other event of my life have I worked with a group that was as focused as the steam crews for the Olympics. It was truly a blessing and a privilage. To Scott, Lance and John, a thank you is due from the steam/tourist communittee. Thier insight and direction trully lead the events and allowed railroad operations to shine with national spot light. With planning and thought many operations around the country could benefit from these events. It is worth the reading!

To all those who we meet while railroading, thanks for supporting the event!

A great report and enlightening example of how two (and more) organizations can work well together and accomplish wonderful things.

What it doesn't have in it are specifics which would be of interest to operators - cost analysis, tangible and intangible benefits, why it didn't get real national exposure, etc.

Nobody else has run a steam commuter railroad in the US in recent memory - these facts would be of interest if John would be willing to share them.
