National Train Day comes to the Columbus and Southern Ohio

The American Steam Railroad is proud to announce the celebration of National Train Day excursions this season in partnership with the Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad.

Trains will operate over the weekend (May 7th and 8th) with the Hocking Valley Limited. Ticket prices start at $10 for children and $15 for adults. A limited number of Caboose Ride tickets are available each trip and can be purchased in advance at the American Steam Railroad Web Site.

ASR has run trips for over 2,000 passengers at various locations in Ohio in 2010 and we expect this year to be even more successful, so buy your tickets early! Trains will operate at 10:00 am, 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm on Saturday and 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM on Sunday. Passengers can choose from two classes of tickets: coach and caboose class. The experience will give passengers the rare opportunity to ride behind a 1956 C&O Diesel in an open-air car or high above while riding in the copula of the caboose where they can take in the sights and sounds of railroad history in action.

Some lucky people will actually have the opportunity to operate a Baldwin Switcher during our special “Throttle Time” event on Friday, May 6th, 2011. For $125, guests will receive general instruction on railroad safety, locomotive operation, and highball the 4005 on the Hocking Valley mainline, spending 30 minutes being the Engineer seat of this rare switching locomotive.

Proceeds from the trips will help rebuild steam engine number 1352, a Frisco 2-8-2 build in 1912.

If you have any questions or concerns please call our ticket and info line at 614-567-2386 or please visit the American Steam Railroad (http://www.americansteamrailroad.org) website for more information.
