WCRR Excursion - West Chester to Lansdale - 6/4/11

This is going to be a really great trip we have been planning for a while. It will be very historical to ride the old Reading MU cars on the Reading side. Nothing like ALCO smoke, open window coaches and mainline speeds. You are able to get tickets for the event on WCRR's website at: http://www.westchesterRR.com

SATURDAY, JUNE 4, 2011

The West Chester Railroad, in conjunction with SEPTA, will be operating a special train from West Chester, PA to Lansdale, PA. The trip is also in coordination with the annual Lansdale Day festival. Equipment will be vintage Reading Blueliner coaches, double headed ALCO RS18 and C424 locomotives and SEPTA's Genset #70. All proceeds of this event will benefit the West Chester Railroad Heritage Association.

9:00am Lv. West Chester's Market St. station
11:00am Ar. at 30th St. station
11:45pm Lv. 30th St. station
12:30pm Ar. at Lansdale
3:30pm Lv. Lansdale
4:30pm Ar. at 30th St. station
5:15pm Lv. 30th St. station
7:00pm Ar. at West Chester's Market St. station

Photo stops will be made as time allows at SEPTA's discretion on the Pennsy and Reading sides of the commuter tunnel. Stops will be made at 30th Street station going to and coming back from Lansdale in order to drop off WCRL #4230 and pick up SEPTA #70. Passengers will have about a 45 minute layover at 30th St station stops.
Rain or shine event. All seating is unreserved. All tickets are picked up at the WILL CALL window only.

Why would they be dropping off WCRL #4230 and picking up SEPTA #70.

Possibly cab signal or clearance issues in the Center city Commuter Tunnel force a change of engines.

I think clearance issues.

A friend of mine was the conductor the day they found out that the stack won't fit under the wires... the hard way.

The WCRR RS18 can fit the clearences in the CC tunnel but their C425's stack wont fit so they will take off the C425 and put on SEPTA's genset instead.

Clearance is indeed why we will be dropping off the c424 and picking up the Genset at Powelton Ave yard. We conducted clearance testing over the summer with the RS-18 and were approved through the commuter tunnel with the power on.
