This last Wednesday we exercised the Milw. combine 2756. It handled well on our line. We pulled it with our 1956 Baldwin S-4300. This locomotive has the highest construction number ever assigned by Baldwin 76151. This locomotive was not sold and was used at the plant until it closed in 1972 and was sold to Bycerus Erie for use in their plant at South Milwaukee. It had been down and is now ready for use on Saturdays at our museum. We will also have 4 days of steam operations at our museum this summer.

I hate to be pointing this out but looking at the web site I see nothing to tell me where this outfit is located, not even the state. Most such web sites have an area about "how to reach us" with links to a map, directions, address, etc. Please help yourselves by adding such things to what is otherwise a nice web site. The only thing I saw to help me was a reference to Northern Pacific on the map of the track loop.

Don't make people look for critical information. Everything necessary to decide whether or not to plan a trip needs to be prominently displayed on the home page. What you offer, why you'd enjoy experiencing it and where you are and what it costs falls into that category. People don't want to work to plan recreation, kind of defeats the purpose.

Here's another head scratcher: The group in Sioux City Iowa has a great website and seems to be doing a lot of work on the old MILW roundhouse and shops as well as former GN 1355, a 4-6-2.

Since I was going to be passing through the area I looked up their page but for the life of me, I can't find a location listed.

It's a minor point of BLH history, but the loco that served as BLH #2 at Eddystone was never officially assigned a BLH construction number. The association of "76151" with this unit came well after the fact. BLH at the time did not assign a c/n until the loco in question was sold, and this one was never "sold" by BLH sales forces. Had it been so sold, it very likely would have borne 76151, but to be strictly historically correct, that number should not be assigned to this loco. The highest number officially assigned was 76150, a small diesel/torque converter 4 wheel built and sold as Marble Cliff Quarries #28 for their operation near Columbus, OH. That loco actually carried a BLH plate with that number. No such plate was ever attached to the S-4300 loco discussed here. I examined it in detail in 1969 while still in use at Eddystone, no plate, no evidence that it ever had one.

There were several other S-4300s built, a neat little end-cab single engine version of the garden variety B-B centercab 50 ton Whitcomb. Standard Slag Co. owned two of them in Ohio and another was built for Babcock & Wilcox at Barberton, OH.

The Baldwin records (register of engines, dates 1955-56) in the Smithsonian collection, which the Ironhorse Central has a copy of in its collection, and was reproduced in the Kalmbach publication "Locomotive" a few years ago, clearly shows that the IHC's S-4300 was assigned 76151. In my opinion, I don't believe that the lack of a plate invalidates the record.
