Post subject:  CNJ #1554 emerges from paint shop
Former CNJ RS3 #1554 was extensively rebuilt by the Delaware-Lackawanna RR and repainted in heritage colors. First outing in the sunshine was this past Monday. The locomotive will be a featured part of the ARHS convention held at Scranton, Pa on June 4th - 5th. Both #1554 and the DL&W F3's will operate on short Steamtown trips on June 5th. Space is still available for anyone who wants to ride the trips. Info on ARHS website or email arjay3@mac.com.

It adds to the philosophical meaning of the whole shot: RS3 helped kill steam, time helped kill RS3. Hmm, I should use this as inspiration for one of my poems!

Except that this pic was in South Scranton at the DL shop, and that's not a steam engine cab.

Don Colangelo and his guys are amazing, especially with Alcos. This one ought to be like brand new based on everything they did to it. GVT management/owners should be very thankful for the shop talent they employ and should be thanked for having faith in classic dismal power.

Awesome job by the DL Shops once again. Is this the first ALCO though to come out in authentic lettering? Very nice job guys.

The lettering and paint is as authentic as possible given that 1554 is a working in-service locomotive and not a museum piece. Thus it needs to comply with current FRA regulations such as the yellow paint on the lower step edges and other minor changes.

Beautiful job! I remember when she ran trips on the old Blue Mountain & Reading. Nice to see her back in the spotlight.

Just wondering if the aluminum window frames will be painted as it does detract from an otherwise awesome restoration job.

Step trim color does not matter as long as it is a contrasting color from the car body. Thus you could use the same color as the striping and lettering for the step edges as well.

That came out really nice! Now to see it with the other 3 DL RS3's.

Looking at that last pic that Robert put up there explains why the horn is off centered from Rich's pic, 1554 had it's steam generator stack removed at some point but the horn was left alone.
