I hadn't seen anything in 'Interchange' on this yet, so I thought I'd put in a good word for the guys and gals at RMNE in Thomaston CT. They are hosting Flagg Coal 75 this weekend, (Memorial Day) and next weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 3 through June 5.

While 'just' an 0-4-0 tank engine, 75 puts on quite a show for its size, handling three heavyweight coaches along the scenic Naugatuck River. Although the engine is small, all the sights, sounds and smells of a working steam engine are there.

More information is available at http://www.rmne.org. If you are in the area, Flagg Coal 75 is worth checking out. To steal some thunder the lettering on the locomotive owner's motor home, this is truly 'Somethin' Special'.

This really makes so much sense. Perhaps this will be the future of steam. Have steam will travel. It makes it easy for many tourist lines to host steam without all of the huge problems of maintaining steam 365 days a year. Engine owners get to have their steam without all of the huge problems of maintaining a railroad 365 days a year. Sounds like a win win to me.

Give us a full report.

Just a quick reminder, this is the second and final weekend of Flagg Coal 75's visit to the Railroad Museum of New England in Thomaston CT. If you are in the area, you won't be disappointed; for such a small engine, 75 does a really nice job. More information is available on RMNE's website, http://www.RMNE.org.

This isn't on the website yet, but according to a response to a photo comment on Flagg Coal's Facebook page (from the Gramling group themselves), she'll also be in Titusville, PA at the Oil Creek and Titusville RR on June 25-26. Very cool! :)
