I got this tidbit from the "original" Norfolk Southern grouplist
and tho not exactly preservation/museum related, it shows a success story bringing life into a short line than for many of the big lines give up on and like other shortlines found new life in the thought abandoned lines.

To make it somewhat preservation related, this group has quite the collection of classic EMD power in regular service including a GP35, GP30, a former DM&IR SDm and several GP9R and GP7s. While they aren't currently preserved, it would appear that CLNA has a soft spot for older EMD power and they seem to be safe for the forseeable future. Perhaps when the time comes they might actually consider seeing these units go to a good retirement home.
