National Capital Trolley Museum hosted a "Cavalcade of Streetcars" on Sunday, September 23. The Cavalcade was an annual feature at the old facility. Earlier this year we felt confident enough to revive the tradition on the new railway. The day was successful: over 200 visitors enjoyed riding on four cars from the collection: PCCs - DCTS 1101 and TTC 4602, the Blackpool boat and STIB 1069 from Brussels via the Grand Cypress resort in Orlando. This event marked the introduction of STIB 1069 and the car was a favorite with visitors. The boat carried a full load every trip. We maintained 15 minute headways with four cars all afternoon.

Fantastic! Plus, the four cars operated gave visitors a good representative sample of cars from the collection, and even in streetcar development.

How did NCTM acquire a Blackpool Boat? I've ridden the one in San Francisco (which flies the Jolly Roger pirate flag from her trolley rope--Aaaaarrrrh, matey!) and the one at Rio Vista Jct. That makes at least three in "the Colonies"--how many are left in the "Mother Country"?

NCTM's Blackpool Boat came from the Brookins collection. There is also a rumor that the one at Rio Vista may be going to San Francisco. Someone from WRM may be able to confirm or deny this.

I operated STIB 1069 and the Boat was my regular meet when I arrived at Fishhook Loop. Passing the Boat each time with its full load of passengers waving back was icing on the cake!
