At my last visit to the museum (late spring of 2010 I think) the new exhibit hall had not opened yet. The "official" unvailing had occurred but the opening to the public had been delayed multiple times due to funding shortfalls. At that time none of the railroad artifacts were available as they were in the new unopened space. Hopefully this photo means the hall has finally opened.

It had appeared from my visit that the hall you describe is indeed open. Not the biggest display of railroad artifacts that I've ever seen in a museum, but what they did have was VERY impressive, including some lighted drumheads, a restored lantern and lamp display, as well as a small railroad velocipede, and the front facade of a street car...In addition to the Shay.

My visit was very brief, as I got there right as they were getting ready to close. However, the staff was extremely friendly (and knowledgeable), the building and displays that I saw were grand, and I plan to take a full tour later this summer.

Mark it up on the chalkboard, if you're heading to Lima.
