Post subject:  GE 70 Tonner to the San Diego Railroad Museum

Eight of M&ET's nine operable 70 tons have been for sale for quite a while at a high asking price. They are keeping the #600 (M&ET bought new). All the extra ones purchased over the years as parts and cores for rebuilding are reported to have been recently scrapped.

The eight operable units were sold to Sterling Rail (dealer) who have not had much luck selling them either. M&ET #613 was originally SP #5119, and spent most of its SP career assigned to San Diego on SP's subsidiary San Diego & Arizona Eastern. This unit has been purchased by the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum with a member's donation for use at their museum at Campo, on the Mexican border east of San Diego on the former SD&AE mainline.

Donations are being requested to truck the locomotive to Campo, maybe buy some spare parts, and repaint the unit back to SP colors. Besides the #600, this might be the only other unit preserved the way things look.
