""I'd like to be the head of a committee that brings new ideas and new events to Galesburg Railroad Days".

So let me get this straight, and correct me if I err. The Chairman of the Galesburg Railroad Days Committee wants to resign next year in order to be on another committee to increase the number of events and get more people involved in what made Galesburg famous?

A question and a couple observation:
Question - why can't the chairman of one committee be involved in the projects of other committees? Is the internal structure of this group so rigid as to prevent participation of others in their project, or should I say "on their turf"?

Observations: from the looks of the "crowd" in attendance, it would seem to me that he has some unfinished work to do with Railroad Days. I counted 18 people in the picture.

What made Galesburg famous was the CB&Q and ATSF choosing to align their rights-of-way through their metropolis. You need a committee for that?

My assumption, based on the very little in the article and some very minor background noise that I've heard, is that he is looking to step back from what I would term as the "administrative" side of things, and back to the "hands-on/nuts and bolts" side.

Not a bad thing, gives some fresh blood/input to things all around, and keeps a good 2nd option (if God forbid things go south) on hand and involved.

Some food for thought for a number of operations I might think.....

Chances are that the pic in that article was meant as a posed shot.

I think the issue here is that this festival has done the same thing over and over again for years, and these festivals get stale from doing that. I think similar problems have happened with other annual festivals such as the one in Durand, MI, and possibly in Altoona as well. Keeping these events fresh and interesting is a challenge, and given these towns aren't exactly booming or wealthy areas makes it even more so. It looks like the folks in Altoona did offer some very interesting excursions to keep things interesting this year.
