I'm looking for a one paragraph RR museum curator job description. Anybody have one they could share? Thanks.

There are a lot of different definitions of what a curator is and does. In general the curator is responsible for the collection and its interpretation.

Some museums have curators who specialize… i.e. curator of collections, curator of education… I believe CSRM at one time had curator of large items (i.d. rolling stock), and a curator of small items (everything else) A San Francisco Art museum has a curator of painting, a curator of furniture, a curator of clothing. In a smaller organization the curator is likely responsible for collection records, while in a large organization, there may be a separate position responsible for cataloging artifacts. Similarly, a curator may be responsible for collection maintenance, while some groups have conservators, responsible for artifact care.

In an operating railroad museum, there may be a split between operational maintenance and curatorial maintenance issues.

I would suggest contacting the American Association of Museums, alternately, find a railroad museum with a similar collection size and staff size, and see what they have.

Seems like instead of something generic, you'd want it to be tailored to the job in question. Have you defined what you need the curator to do? It could vary widefly depending on the collection and organization.

Bob, I was on a fishing trip to see if one or two paragraph descriptions would show up to start my thinking.
