The Korean Railroad Museum in Uiwang, ROK, is looking for information on James R. Morse, who was involved in the initial construction of a railway line in Korea. A Google search turned up this paragraph:

"The Gyeongin Line, Korea’s first railway line, opened on September 18, 1899. American James R. Morse gained the right to build the 31-kilometer railroad from the Korean government in 1896 but the construction was soon halted due to financial difficulty. A Japanese company later took over the right and restarted the construction in April of 1899. In September of the same year, the 33.2-kilometer Gyeongin rail line opened to link Noryangjin in Seoul to Incheon, the port city on Korea’s west coast. The following year, the line was extended across the Han River into Seoul Station."

Another find states:

"...James R. Morse, who was the sometime head of the American Trading Company, a syndicate backed by the merchant bank J.P. Morgan. Hunt had been associated with Morse since his time in China in the early 1890s..."

Does anyone have any further information on him, such as where and when he was born, his education, his involvement (if any) with American railroads and other businesses, what he did after the Japanese took over construction of the railway, etc.?
