Post subject:  OT - Visiting Montreal

My wife and I will be camping in upstate New York near Lake Champlain. The campground is about 70 miles south of Montreal and we are thinking about making a day trip. I have looked at commuter rail and metro options to get into the downtown area. Is there parking at metro or commuter rail stops on the south side of the city? And do they tend to fill up early as is the case here in the Nation's Capital with metro. Thanks for the travel advice. PM or e-mail is fine if you don't want to tie up a thread.

Thanks,

Wesley

Get out to Delson and visit Exporail!

Richard,

Re: Delson - I am traveling with DW (dear wife). Exporail is not on the list this trip in favor of seeing the Ticonderoga at Shelburne Museum, Mt Washington Cog, and maybe Clark's Trading Post. Montreal is a last minute addition.

I am still looking for any insight into parking and commuting into central Montreal from the south side of the city.

If you go south from Mt Washington Cog and then west to Clark's Trading Post, you will go right by the Conway Scenic. I did all three a couple years ago and really enjoyed them.

Even my wife loved the Cog, Wes - and I spent a couple hours with Nigel on my visit, leaving her to look around. You won't be disappointed. My disappointment was in not realizing just how close to Conway the Maine 2 foot guys are until after I got home. New England isn't as big as the southeast. If you have more luck and a better map than I did, maybe you can get over in Maine as well.

Safe and fun trip.

I am happy to report that DW and I had an enjoyable day in Montreal. Even DW thought the rubber-tired subway was a bit unusual. The day ended with a surprise as we left the Notre Dame Basilica. They are working on the street in front of the church. As we walked past I saw some timbers in the pile of excavated dirt. On closer inspection, there were several small sections of girder rail! Photos and exact street location names will follow when I get home.

Au revoir,

Wesley
