Hi Everyone, We have successfully turned our first wheel at The Connecticut Trolley Museum. We are using an 1890s belt driven dual spindle lathe built by McCabe. We adapted a tru trace hydraulic tracing attachment to it. This allows us to use an appropriate wheel profile template and indexable carbide inserts to turn wheel sets. The first set we are turning is off our New Orleans car #836. It is hoped that we will have this job completed and the car back in service by mid September. You can see a video of our set up at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUdsbSysBVo If anyone is in the area and wants to see the setup in operation I expect we will be running it for the next 2 Saturdays. |

Scott was telling me about this yesterday that you were able to do this since he made the template. Being able to do the work in house now is a big plus. I do like how you guys adapted the lathe with a traction motor. |
