Hi All

In the late 1990s the FRA did a video on locomotive inspection while the industry was under the old rules. Does anyone know if the FRA has updated that video to the new rules?

Thanks,

Is the video in question the one that covers daily inspection? If so, I believe the section of rules governing daily inspections had few changes it and all the items covered in the video are still in effect today. I know of no new video the FRA has produced on steam locomotives.

Hi All

I should have stated steam locomotive inspection. I am sorry if I caused any confusion. For the record Mr. Conrad of the Valley Railway is in the video and I believe this video is still relevant today in the form I saw it I am interested to know if it was updated. For the record a quick search of a friend did not show it on UTUBE.

We maintain it on our YouTube account for in-house use, but I have it as "unlisted," primarily because it may give the lay-person the idea that a boiler event is something that can happen with relative ease.

I was in a rules class recently that used this video (the new one Kelly is referring to) as part of the day's training. This was the first time I had seen it and I felt it was well done and relevant to any similar training session. I don't think I would show it 'stand alone' to someone who was unfamiliar with locomotive operation for the same reasons also mentioned, unless it was incorporated with other interpretation and training.

Dear Mr. Kelly Lynch,

Thank you for the response. That is the video I remember seeing although I had forgotten the NTSB participation. I found it a good video for use in training crews. Several people with the Nevada Northern had not seen it when I first got there. I was able to get them a copy from another tourist RR. For those of you who have not seen it I believe it was is a valuable presentation. Given the code change since this video was produced I wonder if there is a newer version out there?
