He's back with another beautiful film. Anyone recognize the location? Looks like it could be a museum in its early stages. How many would let him literally ride over the trains in their back 40?

The production company and the obvious setting lead me to conclude it is in the UK. After watching it I passed it on to a couple friends. Very cool to watch.

It's definitely the U.K., but for all we know this just happens to be either a real industrial site (lots of former collieries, etc. look like this) without actual preservation going on, or an industrial museum where railways are only a side thought. The relatively good appearance of the grounds and track lead me to guess the latter.

A posting on another list says it is in Scotland.

Whatever this individual's skills at handling his bicycle, what's he's doing is completely unsafe and any discussion of this should be focus on that aspect, first, if not exclusively. If this is the UK, maybe there's less tolerance for intentional self-imperilment by trespassers by the courts and so if he breaks his neck no problem legally but most of us seem to be stateside, so...

The first time some dolt with a penchant for mimicry decides to find "some old trains" to attempt to recreate these stunts on and falls and breaks his/her neck, you can bet there will be a lawsuit and the old trains (aka potentially your museum, tourist or heritage operation) will be labelled an "attractive nuisance" and we'll be having another case relying on that 1870-something case with the kid on the turntable. Of course a psychologically screened dozen dimbulbs- handpicked for gullibility and jacked up on boredom and pity will award millions in compensatory and punitive damages because said dolt made him/herself into a quadriplegic and your attractive nuisance forced him to attempt to jump two parked boxcars. But it'll be the insurance company's greed that causes an increase in premiums for everybody the next year.

First off, why in the world would you think this guy is trespassing? Danny Macaskill is a professional, and even has the blessing of RedBull as you can see from his helmet. Just because what he is doing may be unsafe for you to do, doesn't mean it is nearly as unsafe for him. He is one of, if not the best in the world at what he does. Maybe some "dolt with a penchant for mimicry" will watch deadliest catch and decide to go crabbing up in the bearing sea, one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. Ah yes, credits... a little Googling seems to tell the story of a preservation effort with great difficulties - at least as far as the site is concerned. Sounds like Ayrshire's steam is at another location.

It always interests me when preservation/industrial ruins find a way into pop culture.

Macaskill's skills and the cinematography used to highlight them are well known in the sports world. It certainly brought attention to a preservation effort I had not heard of.

I find his 'act' simply amazing. From a former novice BMX biker, now in my 40s I could have only dreamed of doing a few on the simple stunts he performs in that video. And that is the way I take, a stunt performer doing his act in a different venue.

His talent is way beyond anything I have seen before.

Having checked out a little bit more of the story, there seems to have been plans in the works for awhile to create a museum at this site... plans that got as far as brakevan trips some years ago, which may explain why, as ADM pointed out, the tracks are in decent condition compared to the rest of the site.

I wonder if there might not have been financial considerations as a result of the shoot? Perhaps that benefit the project?
