aside from, "I didnt know that was there" and shocking it was torn out, rats...

when this happens the railroad may be up to something and I hope something is going on for the site, but, yep, woops, omy sheeze.

Damn shame is right. It's one thing to lose something after efforts to save it, but this wanton destruction is just awful. There most likely people out there who would have tried to save it, if they had notice or opportunity.

Probably someone realized the scrap value and POOF! gone. Might not have even been the land owner.

As was mentioned in an earlier post- it could be the railroad that did all of that. Same thing happened in Durand, MI some years ago. CN took out the turntable and associated tracks 15+ years ago. Some said they were opposed to any hint of preservation while others said it was to make room for a planned intermodal facility. I don't know if either or both are true, just that the turntable disappeared.
