If they are building a light rail system to Golden, any chance the museum might be attached to live track? Would be nice to see a certain pair of F9's roaming free on occasion.

It is already connected to the BN(SF) many of their standard gauge donations arrive that way.

When I was there in 1976 there was a temporary spur that at one time had connected the museum with active rail (I believe CB&Q 5629 and the Rotary were parked on the spur across the street from the museum grounds), but when I was there this past June there was no connection to live rail.

The last 2 standard gage cars were trucked in according to this post:

Yes, we're excited to put it mildly about the new track being put in for us. We have run out of standard guage rail to store equipment. This will allow us to move four of our current boxcars (including two REA cars) to this new location. It will also start the dominos falling as once they are moved, than the newly acquired U.P. diner and RG baggage/coach combine, along with others, can start to be relocated.

The light rail being put into Golden is unfortunately not close by to the museum. We are located right next to the BNSF Golden "Beer Line" that goes into Coors. We do not have a switch tied into their line and the only piece of equipment to my knowledge that ever came into the museum off that line was CB&Q 4-8-4 Northern #5629 back in August of 1963. Everything else comes in via truck and crane. It is VERY unlikely that would ever change.

Should be a great Saturday!
