Anybody know or willing to tell when 765 is actually heading for Ohio for it's upcoming CVSR trips? A certain well-known railfan pay-site claims the move is Wednesday, early. I'm reserving judgement until I hear someone say they actually saw it moving between the FWRHS grounds and NS. Thanks in advance for any good info.

The way it usually works out....knowone knows for sure and we usually find out when it is already happening. We can understand that NS wants to get this done as quickly and as safely as possible, so it is right in a way that they don't want much of this info leaked to the public.

I have no inside scoup and probably wouldn't submit it if I had it, so the best I can say is.......wait for the whistle...

My two cents.

Those in the "know" keep their mouths shut or they won't be in the "know" next time. Anyone who "knows" has usually proven the ability to keep quiet in the past.
There is a post on trainorders with someone in capital letters saying spread the word about the new date. Exactly the reason why NS requires this information not to be released publicly.
If you make them mad events like this will become impossible due to the lack of ability to move equipment. The railroads DO NOT have to do moves like this. They set the rules. It is to bad people can't respect these wishes and just let people do their jobs.

You know what, trying to hide 400 tons of hissing and whistling steam locomotive is really next to impossible. There is a difference between a handful of those with a serious interest on a cloudy, rainy Wednesday going out and responsibly, and safely getting some images and the circus of mass publicity that will happen the next 3 weekends in the Cuyahoga Valley. I found out what I needed to know elsewhere and intercepted at Spencer, where there were a handful of fans, including a couple others from this board. No circus, no muss, no fuss, very low key affair. Someone could have PM'd me with what I wanted to know and that would have been it. You don't have to be sanctimonious about it. A lot of us here are professional railroaders as well as preservationists and fans who would not act irresponsibly.

I recall when 2102 was doing a fanftrip in Indiana and was turning on a wye, there was a huge troupe of children watching this standing trackside, the engine was creeping around the curve then suddenly the mass of kids started running to the engine, but some policemen were right there and shunned them away. I think the stop was where an event was and the public was there. Anyways that was a dangerous moment that was averted.

I know with this 9/11 deal just about everybody is terrorist conscious, but I sometimes think it is way overcautious. Back in the days of steam we had no worries/cares run out and film anywhere.

Wherever 765 is going to be somehow the word gets out like the posted story elsewhere, meh, its more exciting to watch the engine than someone trying to cause hurt.

If you wanted to really do something, make the engine move a real fan trip to the event pulling happy fans. This makes problems for the one way trip but for riders but for today they can work it out.

I had heard about 765 going to CVSR in Sept. a few months back but i had totally forgotten about the move.I did luck out and happened to catch it by chance in Monroeville,Ohio the 7th on Wed. afternoon.I had run over there to do some work on the NYC RR depot there for our rail trail group and when arriving noticed a couple guy's standing out on the far east end of the newly concrete redecked ex NYC bridge wich is now for rail trail use. They were looking over at the W&LE bridge to the north alongside and the water below.I didn't think anything of it when i went inside the depot as i thought they were just people using the trail and bridge.

About 20 mins.later a van pulled up outside and a guy got out.I went outside and asked my wife who was waiting for me in our car what the heck was going on.She said "oh the guy had a camera and went out on the bridge".Then a couple other vehichles pulled in and several guy's went running out on the bridge. Then it dawned on me that something of interest must be coming so i walked out on the bridge and chatted with a few guy's who gave me the whole scoop what was to transpire very soon.

They noticed my NS hat i was wearing and then asked me if i happened to work for the RR wich i said yeah, then i got the round of usual questions of how do you like the job ect. In the next 5 mins.vehichles began pulling up and parking along the road and over by the old LS&MS/NYCRR depot and Ridgefield Twp.building. Wednesday afternoon at Monroeville,Ohio by the RR bridges then looked like Marion,Ohio at AC tower on a typical railfan weekend day! I see this activity all the time on my RR run. These guy's know more about what's going on sometimes than what i think the RR does!

Anyhow a few mins.later i heard that beautiful lonesome whistle of 765 echoing in the distance as she blew for the crossings on the west side of town and as she neared the bridge you could see the smoke and hear the steam. All i had was my lousy cell phone camera so i waited till she got on the middle of the W&LE bridge and snapped a picture hoping maybe it might turn out.By the time i pulled my phone down to look she was already passing by going east.It was just the engine, tender and water car. Then everyone ran off the bridge hopped into their cars and left and the moment was gone as quickly as it had appeared. How can anyone not love the sights and sounds of a working steam locomotive? Even i was captivated by it,but just trying to get a picture i felt like i missed the whole thing.

I've got almost 20 years in now with NS and have had the pleasure of running diesel engines for almost 18 of those years.Do i like the job? Yes,i love railroading, but in one sentance you can love it but also hate it.Times are different now.I sometimes think i was born 100 years to late as most steam was gone or leaving the year i was born but at least a few are still preserved to give us the experience of what it used to be like. After the excitement had left M-ville that day i called my oldest son,daughter-in-law and grandson who live over by Clarksfield along the W&LE.I told them if you want to see NKP 765, run up to the RR crossing by Sunrise as she'll be there soon! They made it up there and my 5 year old grandson got to see 765 for the very first time.
