Post subject:  Traverse City Zoo Train Update

For many years, a miniature steam train operated at the Traverse City Children's zoo.

The zoo was closed a few years ago and is now just a park, and there was a movement to do away with the train which is now old enough to be considered historic.

From the Traverse City Eagle comes the following information

Train stays in plans for Clinch Park

Commissioners want to focus on design of new project proposals

TRAVERSE CITY — The mini-train will stay at Clinch Park, but its exact location there still must be determined.

City commissioners at a Monday meeting examined several options for a planned overhaul of Clinch Park. One option omitted the train, but commissioners made it clear they won't go down that route.

The train was set to be removed as part of a large-scale redesign of Clinch Park, largely because its tracks would interfere with several planned features. It also could pose a significant safety hazard if it wove through those new attractions, designers believe.

The parks and recreation commission will work a design firm hired by the city, until a satisfactory plan is reached.
