We are creating a new vestibule for our Model 20 Edwards Motor Car and have run into a roadblock on the trap doors. We can find new latches, etc. from Adlake but have no source for hinges. I'd greatly appreciate some help locating suitable hinges for (2) trap doors that will weigh approximately 48 lbs when completed (we made them from 1/4" safety-tread steel plate). Used ones in decent shape (not broken; some rust is OK) either from a scrapped car or extras from a rebuild project are perfectly acceptable. Thanks for the help. My though would be to use hinges that are used in bank vaults. Might be strong enough to hold those trap doors. I also wonder if normal door hinges would work... |

Normal door hinges won't work, or hold up very well. I imagine bank vault hings are far too bulky. Properly adjusted trap hinges will allow the trap to spring up a few inches once you release them, so you can easly grab it and pull it up. May I suggest you pur a call out on the ARM parts list? Maybe give the dimensions and weight of the trap doors. I'm sure someone has some suitable RR trap hinges that will work. |
