Post subject:  Baggage Car Door Weatherstripping

Golden Gate RR Museum is restoring Baggage-RPO Union Pacific 5901 (ACF, 1949). http://ggrm.org/Collection_view.aspx?id=13 The side door weatherstripping needs to be replaced. It appears to be same standard design used on heavyweight & lightweight baggage car doors.

Weatherstripping description:
1/2" diameter bulb (3/8" diameter foam rubber core with 1/16" thick rubberized canvas wrapped around it), with a 3/4" wide tadpole tail of rubberized canvas.

Tadpole tail is encased in ~.040" thick steel folded & crimped over the tadpole tail.

Tadpole tail is clamped to doorframe with a fluted "L" shaped steel sheet metal strip, 1-5/16" wide x 1/4" tall (at "L") x 1/16" thick. Strip has elongated holes 3/16 x 5/16 to adjust for tight fit on sliding door.

When installed on doorframe, the effect is a "P" shaped seal.

Has anyone found a replacement source for this weatherstripping, and/or the "L" shaped retaining strip?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Modern materials are OK if necessary.

Thanks! - Doug Debs
