Milwaukee Road 261's No. 1 and No. 2 sets of drivers on a flat bed about to depart for TVRM. 3 and 4 are already down there. As Steve Sandberg remarked, "Now the real spending begins".

The local place that was turning the wheels had the misfortune to have their lathe fail, and didn't intend to repair until they needed it for a paying customer, so off to Tennessee with the drivers. Steve hopes to have them back under the locomotive sometime in November.

Regards,
Doug

Thanks for sharing. Can't wait till she is back, I'm sure she'll be better than new.

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

refresh my memory, all the rumors of an "alternate" engine for the "friends" to restore and run, what was the final calling on that, just restore 261?

Not to steal the Thread, but I am interested to know if Mr. French is still a part of the 261 project. I really enjoyed his humor while he worked with us at GCR.

Yes, Jim is quite involved with the rebuilding process, as well as many other day to day things around the shop.

Greetings all!

Given the remarks in the initial post I wanted to point out that next to free..... TVRM is the most economical choice out there for wheel work. Just a shade more than half the cost of Strasberg. And, their quality is absolutely superb!

Cheers, Jason
