NS's photo shoot with historic diesels for their 30th Anniversary calendar and other publications has been going on today, and will continue through Sunday. The units involved are N&W 522 (Roanoke Chapter NRHS), SR 2594 (TVRM/SERM), and CR 2233 (RRMPA). Part of the shoot will be open to the public tomorrow night at the Link Museum. http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?ei ... 1003499124 Here is the latest photo from NS's Facebook page, taken just a short time ago http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fb ... =1&theater earlier today http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fb ... =1&theater http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fb ... =1&theater |

I sure wish they had fixed the font on the 2233. It's a bit off, and really bugs us Conrail purists. That being said, definitely a cool event, especially having all of the same type of unit. |

I would love it if they would stick these girls on the front of one of their trains and let them roam the system a few days. Imagine them on the point of their biz train rather than the f's for a trip or two! :) Joe |

NS needs to fire its photographer. This one is MUCH better: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=378660&nseq=2 |

Don't be so hard on them. Remember, the OFFICIAL session is tonight. <:-) (And you'll notice that the RailPictures photo is, in fact, an official NS photo copyrighted by NS.....) |

Sandy, All of this is "official" NS photo sessions. Tonight is just one of the parts that is open to the public. Dave, These shots are all from the same photographer, NS's Casey Thomason, who arranged the shoot. The quality difference you're seeing is that some are quick shots from a smartphone to update the Facebook page. Others, like the one from Railpictures, are typical of the shots for future publications. Casey is a fantastic photographer, and super nice guy to boot. Joe, There'll be a little taste of what you're talking about on the last day of the shoot, Sunday. The 4 locomotives are going to be coupled to a string of brand new hoppers, and will run up the old Shenandoah Division to Glasgow Va. and back for more pictures. NS police will be restricting access to certain areas that are private property, but there are a fair number of spots to view and photograph the train from public areas. |

My apologies to Casey. Should have known those FB pics were from a phone. You're right Gary. I've seen Casey's work on Railpics and he is a very good photographer. |

"The 4 locomotives are going to be coupled to a string of brand new hoppers, and will run up the old Shenandoah Division to Glasgow Va. and back for more pictures." THAT is simply amazing. And a refreshing indication of the difference between what happens in Roanoke, and another railroad town about 230 miles to the north... Howard P. (proud N&W, er, NS stockholder since 1965) |

Anybody know which engine will Sunday's train? I'd love to see an active GP30 on the front. |

The train will be returning to Roanoke in the afternoon, so I would expect that there will be a GP30 leading in one direction. |

From earlier today http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 680&nseq=0 The building in the background is where the J's, A's, and Y's were designed. |
