This was on my Facebook feed this evening from a friend at Tennessee Valley. I've never seen this before, but is apparently a Pennsy engine. Any further details?

Looks like rotary oscillating cam poppet valves. Time to pull out my copy of "Pennsy Power"

Is this a retrofit to replace a slide valve?

Not a retrofit, and not poppets.

PRR E6sa #1092 built in 1912, had Young rotary valves actuated by Walschaert valve gear. Later rebuilt as a standard piston valve E6s.
