On a cross-country road trip last week, I stopped in at Laramie for a look around. The old UP snowplow there is a sight to behold. It's as much a piece of sculpture as it is maintenance-of-way machine. The head-on view is almost menacing.

Cool to see it with some snow on the ground. I was with some friends and we checked that out back in July while the 844 was on layover in Cheyenne for the Frontier Days trip. The whole display is neat to see, and I think recently had some work done by Wasatch to touch it up.

Wasatch were in charge of the move of all the pieces from their different locations around Laramie to the park.
Its easy to make flippant comments about equipment and its condition, but this was a staggering piece of coordination between city, historical society and supporters to give us a totally unique display.
Time and money will complete the project. 'You know what to do' .

I'm really impressed with what these folks accomplished. This snow train was a killer idea. When I see a well-organized and productive group like this, it makes me want to join! (...Truth be known, tonight I searched online for jobs in Laramie, and found a few. Hmm, maybe it's time to move out of WA. )

Yes it is impressive, i was invited over for one of their meetings as a railroad preservation representative from Cheyenne, the Laramie depot restoration project is amazing and a very nice building and now the display outside too. As always they really do need practical help. Laramie and Wyoming in general are very good places to live, low cost of living, great weather and very friendly people. We emigrated to Cheyenne (via a necessary stop in Tucson) from the grotty UK in 2005 and have never regretted it.

I take it, this was constructed from a surplus tender. Having visited a considerable number of Union Pacific monuments, I can say there is no dearth of ex-U.P. Vanderbilt tenders. Great resources!
