Noted PCC expert and former PTC/SEPTA employee, Bob Hughes passed away Saturday afternoon after a long illness. Bob is remembered for his smile and willingness to be of help. He was a fixture at Seashore Trolley Museum during and after his retirement from SEPTA. I first met BOB when he was 12 years old. He rode on many MPRA trolley trips in the 1950's. |

*likes* the above post. Bob was a personal and family friend, it is a sad loss for all who knew him personally, professionally or the operations (Seashore, BSM, RTY, BVTA) that received his expertise. He was a great man with a big heart. R.I.P Bob |

I first met Bob in person when I went to Philadelphia in June 1999 representing both Pennsylvania Trolley Museum and my employer ADtranz. I was there to oversee the loading of SEPTA PCC 2711 for the move to Elmira, NY where ADtranz refurbished the car for PTM as a donation, including making it wheelchair accessible. Bob was in every way a gracious host and already had matters well in hand when I arrived at the carhouse. He operated the car up to the loading ramp and then watched over its loading and securing, quickly obtaining any needed supplies. He was obviously very glad to see one of his "pets" go off to a new career at PTM. Gentlemen like Bob are getting rare in the transit world nowadays. As each of them passes from the scene, we in the museum end of things are poorer for the occasion. |
