Does anyone have a list of surviving Westside Lumber equipment?

You can start with the rosters in Mallory Hope Ferrell's two books, but much of the equipment which survived to be sold is currently rotting away in various small private collections, or has been broken up for parts for other restorations.

I know of at least three skelton cars which while complete (more or less) have rotted into two pieces. Of the three only one seems to have any hope of restoration. We are likly to lose as much as 2/3 of the cars which currently survive over the next few years. Too much wood, too much weather, too few committed to saving what we have.

As far as the steam engines go, there is a branch office of the Westside Lumber Company in Georgetown, Colorado. With two or three of them in that line.

The line is represented here in California by Heisler #3 (built 1899) at the Roaring Camp and Big Trees Railway at Felton,CA. They operate year round. One of the few places that you can ride steam powered narrow gauge train in the winter.

Another museum that has Westside equipment is the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Museum in Nevada City, CA. They are going to open a new museum building in August You might want to check their web site.

Westside Lumber flatcars 277, 294, 297, and 302 are in the Montana Heritage Commission's railroad equipment collection in Nevada City, Montana. This collection is the former C.A. Bovey collection assembled during the 1960's. The cars are complete, but have suffered side sill damage from a fire in 1992.
