Is it OK to list a addy to a model site? This is my first post, and I don't wish to do anything wrong. This site has 5 models of the multi-axle tank cars.

Are you trying to advertise for a business? If so this goes in classifieds, not in the Interchange.

No, it's my flickr site, all models are scratch built by me. I consider it a way to preserve
the cars.

Many of us here do consider modeling as a valid form or preservation. To make it more relevant maybe you could give us some history. Also, are any of these babies in preservation?

The Museum of Transport has preserved one. The Museum in Galveston had one; but it was floated off its truck by the storm surge from Hurricane Ike, and was scrapped.

These were banned from interchange, so few of them exist, and at least these two made it into preservation.

Why did they have to scrap it? Was the car damaged when it floated away? I've seen tank cars do that before, go a long distance, but be bascially un-harmed.

The best answer I could give is that it was the expediant thing to do. Their entire rolling stock collection was flood damaged, and the museum interior destroyed. They are now scrapping the F units that were likewise flood damaged.

There was some discussion here of these DUPX cars within the past couple of years...don't have time to search now. At that time there was supposedly a move to try and save one, but as far as I know all the Dupont cars have been scrapped. The car in Galveston was a whalebelly car and not the same design as the DUPX cars. The models look very nice, by the way. Thanks for sharing, tankcarsrule.

Modeling stuff: There is often a sharp schism between model railroaders and rail preservationists, even though they sometimes overlap. Though models can, in a sense, be "preservation" of a kind, typically the motivations of modelers are far more self-centered than those of preservationists. Preservationists, taken to a stereotypical extreme, argue replace/replicate-vs.-restore; modelers "rivet-count" and argue whether that car ever could have run behind that locomotive.

For reasons like these, many groups and organizations erect firm walls between the model discussions and prototype discussions.
