This weekend I received Jim Wrinn's Steam's Camelot as an early Christmas gift from our son and his family. The book offers a nice trip down memory lane from my frequent rides and chases of SR 4501, SR 722, S&A 750 and CPR 2839 on the mainline between Washington, Manassas and Charlottesville, and west on the Front Royal branch. I especially recall a trip with 722 and 750 on a rainy October day in 1971 as we slipped our way up the grade to Linden Gap on the Front Royal branch. Those were the days and Jim has captured them well.
